MISSION STATEMENT
BACKGROUND-RIFT
VALLEY PROVINCE
Rift Valley Province is the biggest
in the Republic of Kenya with an area of 182,413 square
kilometers and a population of about 6,097,037 according
to the 1989 census. The current population may be estimated
to be over 9 million. There are 22 police Divisions,
91 police stations, 73 police posts and 104 patrol Bases
with personnel of 4277 officers to take care of the
security of these large Province in the country with
the highest population.
The Province may be classified into
two crime zones, namely those allied to operational
areas i.e. Lokitaung, Turkana, West Pokot, Marakwet,
Samburu, Keiyo, and partly Laikipia. The other 15 Divisions
are non-operational. The Province is cosmopolitan and
has people from almost all ethnic tribes that are found
in Kenya.
Rift Valley is divided into 49 constituencies, 19 Districts
and 22 Police Divisions.
HISTORICAL
COMMAND
This command was established around
1941 with the first Provincial Commander being a European
Superintendent of Police Mr. Catchpole and the first
African Police Commander was Mr. H.M. Ochieng Assistant
Commissioner of Police who was appointed on 1/7/1964.
Currently the Command is headed by Mr. E.S. Wasige Senior
Assistant Commissioner of Police who took over from
Mr. J.N. Kitonyi, Deputy Commissioner of Police on 15/11/2005.
