HISTORY OF ANTI STOCK THEFT UNIT
In 1963 when Kenya attained her independence, livestock stealing had been noted to be a problem in some areas. Some police Divisions like Kericho, Nakuru, Eldoret, Laikipia, Kajiado and Kiambu had therefore established Anti Stock Theft Unit stations at Divisional Headquarters to curb this menace.
The Kenya Police Anti Stock Theft Unit as a unit of the Police force was formed in September 1965. During this period the Unit personnel operated from the 5th. Kenya Rifle (5 KA) Barracks (slim camp) in Gilgil. These were previously occupied by the British army and were vacant after their departure.
The Unit moved to the present location after the purchase of the farm from Mrs. Cartlight in 1970, who was a dairy farmer.
