Valley province to the north, and East then Nyanza
province to the South. It covers a land surface
of 4 million. It has eight administrative districts

Western province
was originally referred to as North Nyanza during
the colonial days.
Later, the district was named Western province.
Initially it had two districts namely Kakamega
and Bungoma. Later another district named Busia
was created, it remained with the three districts
until early 1992 when the current districts began
coming up as shown above.
