Officers recover 15 firearms
Security forces deployed in East Baringo
to disarm villagers have recovered 15 firearms and 20 rounds
of ammunition.
Baringo Officer Commanding Police Division
Peter Njenga, who led the operations that started on April
27, said the weapons were forcibly confiscated from people
suspected to be behind the wave of cattle rustling incidents
that have rocked the area in the past two months.
Njenga said most of the firearms were AK-47
rifles, which are normally preferred by bandits.
Most of the residents have fled their homes
following the commencement of the forceful disarmament exercise
that was ordered by National Security minister John Michuki.
