| Police officers
deployed in the ongoing operation to restore order and
security in Mt Elgon area today raided caves in Mt Elgon
forest where they found armed raiders who have been
terrorizing residents at Chebyuk settlement scheme.
The raiders opened fire on the police patrol team but
were quickly overpowered. In the ensuing battle, three
raiders were gunned down and six others arrested.
An assortment of crude weapons was also seized after
the brief shootout in heavy rainfall.
A number of the raiders armed with firearms managed
to flee into Ugandan territory.
In the meantime, Police Headquarters wishes to assure
the public that the operations in the area shall continue
until the it is cleared of the armed thugs and total
calm is restored.
