The
Kenya Police Amateur Boxing Association will host the
9th Inter-Services Boxing Championships between 27th
and 30th November 2006 at the Police Pavilion. Preliminaries
are scheduled for 27th and 28th while the finals will
be held in the evening of 30th November 2006.
The Kenya Police team “Chafua Chafua”,
the 2006 National Boxing League runners up, will be
featuring ace pugilists, including: -
• Stylish National as well as Africa Light Fly
Weight Champion, Sgt. Suleiman Bilali who is ranked
5th in the World at his weight category
• Hard hitting, National Welter Weight Champion
and 1998 Commonwealth Games (Malaysia) Silver Medalist,
Absalom Okinyi who was also a quarter-finalist during
the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Australia
• Indefatigable Best Boxer 2005 and National Heavy
Weight Champion, who was also a quarter-finalist during
the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia,
James Onyango Wasao
• Dependable National Middle Weight Champion and
Bronze Medalist during All African Games held in Egypt
(February 2006), David Opiyo Kisero
The Armed Forces - the current National Champions,
Administration Police and the Kenya Prisons Service,
who have produced legendary boxers with illustrious
in-the-ring careers, have confirmed they will be presenting
their best in this premier event in the national boxing
calendar.
Kenya’s boxing history records that boxers from
the Disciplined Services have regularly continued to
be the undisputed cream of the national boxing fraternity.
In this year’s tournament, therefore, we expect
edge-of-the-seat action throughout the tournament from
our internationally acclaimed veterans and the exiting
new signings in all the four Disciplined Service contingents.
