BAN ON PUBLIC MEETINGS AND PROCESSIONS STILL IN FORCE

A group calling itself ODM-K Central Kenya Initiative is planning to hold a public meeting under the guise of holding prayers at Nairobi Kamukunji Grounds tomorrow morning.

Police Headquarters wishes to inform the public and the organizers of that meeting that in the interest of public safety, the meeting is not authorized and shall therefore not take place.

Due to the tension following the violent clashes during which seven people were killed in Mathare Slums, Police Headquarters cancelled all public meetings and processions until further notice.

Since some of the people who fled the area during the violence are yet to return to their homes, police efforts to maintain law and order and assist them to return to their homes must be supported by all Kenyans.

We are still conducting police operations to flush out and bring to justice outlawed gangs responsible for the tragic violence within and outside Mathare slums.

Police Headquarters therefore reminds leaders and the general public that the ban on public meetings of a political nature in Nairobi and Molo is still in force.
