| The
News Editor,
On Monday 13th November 2006, Hon. Raila Odinga, MP
recorded a statement at Kilimani Police Station alleging
some six prominent people, including police officers
attended a meeting on an unspecified date and in an
unspecified house in Kilimani area during which his
elimination was discussed. In the statement, Hon. Raila
further alleges that police officers in the meeting
excused themselves to go and think about the request.
From interviews held by the Investigating Officer with
the persons named in Hon. Raila’s statement, it
has emerged that none of them is aware of the alleged
meeting.
Hon. Raila is unable to tell the police the date and
venue of the alleged meeting or give any evidence whatsoever
in support of his allegations. Consequently it is our
opinion that the accusations are wild and unsubstantiated
allegations intended to seek cheap publicity and win
public sympathy.
Notwithstanding this, however, if Hon. Raila has more
concrete information, he is always welcome to give it
to the investigating officer.
In the meantime, Police Headquarters warns politicians
of every ilk to avoid making unwarranted wild allegations
against Government officers and senior civil servants
who have nothing to do with politics.
Thank you.
