ASSAULT INCIDENT AT KINANGO, KWALE

Police Headquarters wishes to inform the public that firm action has been taken against a Chief Inspector of Police who assaulted a female member of the public at Kinango in Kwale District yesterday.

Briefly, the police officer assaulted Miss Mary Mwaka at about 3.00 am during the night of 24th and 25th October 2006. The officer also attacked and injured a General Service Unit (GSU) officer currently on leave at his home area as well as two members of the public who had responded to Miss Mwaka’s screams.

This despicable incident is being investigated with all due diligence.

We wish to assure Kenyans that the Kenya Police has not, and shall not condone impunity among our officers. Any incident of misconduct and indiscipline on the part of our personnel shall continue to be dealt with swiftly and firmly.

Police Headquarters takes great exception to police officers who break the same law they are expected to enforce. For this reason, the officer will be charged before court once investigations are complete.
