CRAKCDOWN ON UNROADWORTHY AND DEFECTIVE MOTOR VEHICLES

The Traffic Police and the Kenya Police Motor Vehicle Inspection Unit crackdown in Eldoret yesterday netted 69 motor vehicles. After inspection the following results were recorded: -

• Unroadworthy - 12
• Defective - 40
• Minor Defects - 7
• No Defects - 10

The owners of both the unroadworthy and defective motor vehicles will be charged in court and will be required to make all necessary repairs on their vehicles before being allowed back on the road.

In addition to the consequences outlined above, the registration numbers of all the unroadworthy motor vehicles were removed and returned to the registrar of motor vehicles while their inspection stickers were promptly cancelled.

For all unroadworthy vehicles, subject to licensing by the Transport Licensing Board (TLB), provisions under the Transport Licensing Act shall be invoked to deal with any violation of the license terms and conditions.

This will entail, at best, a stern written warning or suspension from operations for a specified term and may even result in the cancellation of the license.
