For the 24 un-roadworthy motor vehicles seized in Mombasa and Nakuru yesterday, the owners will only be given back their registration numbers by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles after they have satisfactorily dealt with all defects in their vehicles.

They will be required to present a Certificate of Compliance from the Motor Vehicle Inspection Unit as proof that their vehicles are in compliance with existing legal requirements.

The owners or drivers of both the un-roadworthy and the defective vehicles will be charged in court and be required to bring back their vehicles to the required legal standards before they can be allowed back on the road.

We wish to also inform the public that during the ongoing crackdown, 77 motor vehicles were presented on 5th and 6th September for inspection after owners brought them to the required condition.

The owners of 74 busses and 13 matatus were issued with Certificates of Compliance and can now collect their registration numbers from the Registrar of Motor Vehicles.

In order to have an inclusive programme, the Director of Motor Vehicle Inspection has invited the leading fitters of speed governors to observe the inspection exercise and confirm if the devices have been tampered with or not.

The fitters so far invited include: -
• Dante
• Burba
