| During
the ongoing Kenya Police Motor Vehicle Inspection Unit
crackdown on un-roadworthy and defective motor vehicles
yesterday, the Unit backed up by Traffic Police detained
121 motor vehicles at Muthaiga Police Station. The vehicles
were then inspected at the traffic police yard and it
was confirmed that all the vehicles detained were non-compliant
with traffic regulations: -
• 101 were un-roadworthy
• 19 were defective
• 1 had minor defects
The owners or drivers of both the un-roadworthy and
the defective vehicles will be charged in court and
will also be required to bring back their vehicles to
the required legal standards before they can be allowed
on the road.
For the 121 un-roadworthy motor vehicles, registration
numbers have been removed and returned to the Registrar
of Motor Vehicles while inspection stickers have been
removed and cancelled. The owners will therefore be
required to make the necessary repairs and present their
vehicles for a fresh inspection and obtain a Certificate
of Compliance at the Kenya Police Motor Vehicle Inspection
Unit offices, Likoni Road, Nairobi. This is in addition
to the consequences of their being charged in court.
Today the operation is being coordinated at BuruBuru
Police Station. Our appeal to motorists is to avoid
inconvenience by complying with traffic rules and regulations
so that our roads can remain safe for both pedestrians
and motorists.
The media are welcome to report on the operations and
take pictures.
