| Police
are investigating a report alleging a robbery at Southern
Credit Bank, Eldoret Branch at 9:20 am this morning.
It is particularly curious that the bank management
allege that a three-man gang raided the bank and stole
16 million shillings which they stuffed in their socks
and clothes and in a green paper bag before walking
across the road to a parked motor vehicle and speeding
off.
This is absurd and totally unbelievable.
In the light of recent incidents of robberies targeting
banks and financial institutions, we are seriously investigating
the involvement of insiders in crimes against financial
institutions.
Appropriate action shall be taken in this and other
incidents, should our investigations reveal dishonesty
in reporting crime and/or collusion on the part of staff
of the victim institution(s).
Police Headquarters takes crime very seriously and
our officers are under firm instructions to deal with
all persons involved in the commission or facilitation
of crime.
In this regard we will pursue and apprehend criminals
and their accomplices regardless of their positions
within victim institutions.
