ERRONEOUS DAILY NATION STORY ON POLICE ALLOWANCES

Police Headquarters wishes to clarify an erroneous impression created by the news story in the Daily Nation today, Wednesday 16th August 2006 under the headline: “Wait for better pay, police told – Ali blames officials for delay in giving bigger allowances raised in July.”

At no time during the groundbreaking ceremony for a housing project at Kayole Police Station yesterday did the Commissioner of Police blame any officials. What he did is to make the important announcement that plans to review approved police allowances that begun this week were at an advanced stage at the Directorate of Personnel Management.

This is what the Commissioner of Police said: “This week, the Directorate of Personnel Management has started to review all relevant police allowances. I wish to thank our officers for their patience and inform them that all approved allowances will be backdated to the beginning of the financial year.”

He further explained that he had discussed progress of the plans with the Directorate of Personnel Management yesterday morning and was assured that the plans were almost complete and would be finalized by the end of the week.

The Nation writer is therefore totally out of context in his handling of these facts in his story.
