(A) INVESTIGATION
A total of 9024 have to date been investigated
on crimes of Murder, Arson, Theft, Robbery with Violence,
Malicious Damage to property and other crimes against
persons and property committed during the post election
violence period. Out of the 9024 cases, 95 cases have
been registered in court where suspects have been charged.
In 340 of the cases, perpetrators of the crimes have
been identified and effort is on to have them arrested
and charged. 8475 of the cases are in various stages
of investigation with a view to have the investigation
completed.
(B) CASES
OF INTEREST
The following nine(9) cases, by their
nature of commission, victims involved and the reaction
they elicited are highlighted and progress of action
is as follows:
(i) Church Burning in Eldoret: three
suspects have been charged with the killing of the victims
of the burning (Koibatek case No.831/45/08). (ii) Killing
of Father Michael Kamau where 17 suspects have been
charged with various offences related to the incident.
(Koibatek case No.871/06/08).
(iii) Killing of 19 people in a house
burning incident in Naivasha - File Completed and with
State Counsel for perusal and advice (Naivasha case
No.764/41/08).
(iv) Killing of Administration Police
Officer in the incident where DO’s office was
also burnt- Three suspects have been charged with Murder
vide Kericho case No.741/57/08.
(v) Killing of Former Ainamoi member
of Parliament Hon. David Kimutai Too – One suspect
has been charged with Murder vide Eldoret case No.831/226/08.
(vi) Killing of two police officers
in Bureti - Investigation is Complete file forwarded
to state Counsel for perusal and advice. (Bureti case
No.891/47/08)
(vii) Killing of one Nahashon Mburu
in Molo area that elicited skirmishes in the area –
Investigation complete pending arrest of suspect (Molo
case No.711/15/08)
(viii) Killing of one Charles Keittany
Korir, former District Irrigation Officer Koibatek which
elicited skirmishes within Koibatek district, including
the killing of Father Michael Kamau – File already
advised upon by the State Counsel. Effort to have culprits
arrested is on vide Molo Case No.711/34/08.
(ix) Killing of a District Officer
and a Administration Police Chief Inspector in Cheptiret
Area, Eldoret. Three persons already in Court on Robbery
with Violence Charges (Eldoret Case No.832/117/08).
